A cracking day for pics…
…my favorite 'tree arch' on the dog walk looking superb with the autumn colours
and a bonus, mature specimen of Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria) …minus the toad!
27 September - Three recent images.
First, despite some very rainy weather, there have been some lovely morning walks in the last few weeks.
I liked this image with its fragile harebell popping up from the
dew-laden grass. As I was focussing on the flower, big dog strolled
into the picture on the trail of interesting sniffs. You may also have
noticed from past pics
that I like shooting into the light. It does help to give a dewy sparkle to the moisture on the grass!
On a recent visit to the attractive georgian town of Ashbourne in the Derbyshire Peak District,
I stopped for a coffee at a Gallery and spotted this scene from the upstairs window.
In this intriguing image, the old glasswork has distorted the view of the building opposite.
Lastly here's the mobile pizza shop which stops at Delamere forest on Saturday evenings
- a jolly
conversion of a 1960s vehicle complete with faux brickwork. The pizzas were good too!

20 August - Here's a tantalising glimpse of the Just So Festival 2011, first the Tall Trees area
captured in one of the circular mirrors… I liked the ambiguity of this image. It seemed to
mirror the magical atmosphere of the woodland setting.
A contrasting view of the evening event with fabulous, foot stomping The Zen Hussies

1: A beautiful spring morning with a view over Lake Windermere.
Some mornings are just perfect!

2:
In contrast to the shot above, this required a tripod to cope with the
low light levels
whilst still exposing for the Langdale Pikes and the
darkening sky above. I particularly like
the two launches returning to Bowness and the distant light from the boat.
3: Panorama of the Duddon Estuary, with views of the southern Lake District.
Because of its the geology, the southern Lakes has a very different feel.
The sands can be treacherous and should be treated with caution.
4: Hill Farm, in evening light near Broughton Mills, Lake District. The rugged uplands of
the Lake District afford a harsh, but picturesque living. I liked the way the light and shadow
visibly moved across the fell as the sun set behind me.
5: White ewe, black lamb. I took lots of shots of these ewes with their lambs.
It was tricky getting a shot where the lamb was visible behind his mother.
6: The blue swan. Sunset, and another contrasting shot, this time with
the light behind the swan so blue shadow and pink water.
The still water creates a good reflection and the swan's wake is clearly visible.
These large birds swim quite fast and it was difficult to focus correctly
in the time it took for the swan to pass by the camera.
7: The sea of wild daffodils at Cartmel Fell church.
A perfect spring day at this remote and peaceful location.
8: The big splash. This is where the motordrive comes in handy.
I knew I'd get a good shot of my dog diving into the mountain stream.
9: It's not often that you get a magical location and perfect shooting conditions like this!
Lindisfarne in Northumberland is always atmospheric, but to be there at full moonrise
and low tide after the visitors had mostly gone home, was something special.
10: To me this image says what photography is all about - light, shape and motion.
Clear evening light heightened the relief of the black grains against the pale sand,
minute specks of shell rippled by each passing wave.
11: The light over the lake was constantly changes as the clouds pass overhead.
Not much activity on the lake. If you look at the Gallery shots above, you'll see
another pic taken early spring. Don't the trees in the foreground look different!
12: With this shot I tried to show the context and the height of the foxglove by
shooting into the light from below the flower head.
13: Spectacular sunset over Kendal Castle, Cumbria.
This must be one of the most attractive cricket grounds anywhere!
14: I couldn't resist putting this picture back into the Gallery, used as my 'welcome' pic
on my homepage earlier this year and just love the delicacy of these beautiful spring flowers.
A drop of spring sunshine at any time of the year!
